Herbold Meckesheim delivers PET washing line to Turkey

Oct 23, 2024

German machinery builder Herbold Meckesheim is delivering a PET washing line to the firm Doğa, based in Kirklareli, Turkey. The plant is to have a daily output of 100 tonnes of PET recyclate and start operations in early 2024, according to the supplier. This is the fifth PET washing line the company has delivered to Turkey. Doğa reportedly plans to market the recycled PET flakes for bottle-to-bottle applications.

The contract covers the machinery for the actual cleaning process as well as components for pre-sorting. Herbold Meckesheim says it is supplying a debaler, a washing drum and two granulators with forced feeding to its Turkish customer. The hot washing system and the hydrocyclone washing plant and the classifier are designed to meet the customer’s throughput specifications. In addition, three step dryers are installed in the plant to achieve maximum capacity while minimising fines, according to the company. The recycling line will also have a water treatment system.

"At the Doğa group, we are proud to expand our activities, which include real estate, construction, mining and textiles, into the recycling sector," said Ömer Ayvacı, chairman of the board of Doğa group.

After being acquired by the US conglomerate Hillenbrand in 2022, Herbold Meckesheim is part of the Coperion group, where it is integrated in the recycling business unit which offers turnkey solutions for plastic recycling. Herbold has around 260 employees at its main site in Meckesheim, near Heidelberg. According to its most recently published financial results in the German Federal Gazette, Herbold generated a turnover of €37.4m and an annual profit of around €2m in 2021.
