Washing machine users find 'hidden' compartment they didn't know existed | Express.co.uk
If your clothes aren't coming out as clean as you'd expect, or if your washing machine is acting up, it might be because you're unaware of a hidden compartment that needs attention. The washing machine, one of the most frequently used appliances in our homes, requires regular cleaning to ensure optimal performance.
While many are clued-up about running a rinse cycle with soda crystals or white vinegar, the filter compartment often goes unnoticed, leaving users perplexed. This essential part of the appliance, though sometimes tricky to locate, should be cleaned routinely to extend the life and enhance the function of the machine.
A property expert from Select London recently took to TikTok to enlighten users on how to clean their washers. The expert begins by placing a towel under the machine and then proceeds to open a small hatch at the bottom front.

Inside lies the filter compartment, which must be opened and cleared out. "As soon as I open this you're going to see the water gushing out. [...] Please be warned, it will stink because you've got all the dirt that's been collecting underneath and as you can see right now, as my example, we've got hair bands, all kinds of other stuff that you'll find in there."
Initially, she sanitises the drainage area with antibacterial wipes. Next, she transfers the filter to the sink and meticulously cleans it using washing up liquid, followed by a thorough rinse before refitting it into place/
The revelation about this hidden compartment struck a chord with many, as they were completely unaware of its existence or the need for regular cleaning. "I didn't know you had to do this," one person commented.
In another clip on the video sharing platform, a different user found the same hidden spot. One person commented: "Thank you for reminding me to clean my grandma's filter. She didn't know it needed to be cleaned, [and it] was 2 years ago [that] I cleaned it," while another individual admitted: "I've had my front loader for years. Never done this."
