Deep clean washing machine by 'chucking in' two items you already have | Express.co.uk
A clever new cleaning hack shared by Instagram influencer Judy Gilroy has gone viral, offering a simple and surprising solution to cleaning your washing machine with everyday household items.
In a video posted to her Instagram, Gilroy revealed that you can easily refresh your washing machine drum using lemon and toothpaste.
"Did you know you can clean your washing machine with lemon and toothpaste?" she wrote in the video.
“The toothpaste is abrasive so it helps remove the build-up of dirt. The lemon juice is a natural antibacterial because it contains acid.
“They work together to give a super clean.”

The hack is as simple as it sounds: cut a lemon in half, add a generous squirt of toothpaste, and toss it into the drum.
Run the machine on a hot cycle, and that's it - no scrubbing required.
Gilroy explained that the toothpaste’s abrasive quality effectively removes grime, while the lemon’s natural acidity is a disinfectant, leaving the washing machine sparkling clean and fresh.
In the caption of her video, Gilroy encouraged busy followers to try it: "No time to deep clean? Try this! This is such a simple way to give your washing machine drum a refresh with things you already have at home. It’s quick and easy."
